Gogo Hieromonachou conveys the face of the female psyche to the canvas as truth. Women, younger, older, inadequate, tortured, cruel, hateful, charming, all claim our gaze and wear the faces that the painter gives them from the “wardrobe” of her imagination. Even her male portraits project monumental but nevertheless fluid, as if they were born from “Adam’s rib”, faces that, perhaps, seek the feminine gaze in order to be completed.
The last section of Hieromonachou’s works was created in the difficult conditions of the pandemic.
She traveled from Athens to Nicosia and is about to be presented to a wide audience for the first time.
Gogo Hieromonachou "digs" on the canvas, often at a feverish pace, in order to progress as deeply as possible in the exploration of female nature, in order to see and share the female condition beyond the demand for equality or the imposition of political correctness.
That is why her work is not "trendy", it does not simply resonate with our times, but promotes as an authentic example of a solid art that can stand in any era. With subtle sarcasm and depth, Hieromonachou dissects female nature and its potential transformations, she probes the depths of the face. With irony and tenderness, she gives voice and at the same time listens to her heroes, embraces them all in their humblest, weakest moment - from the truly liar Pinocchio to Snow White who stubbornly refuses to wake up - because she shares their most secret desire: to tell their truth.
