Dionisios Pappas

Dionisios Pappas (Athens, 1974) is an Athens based visual artist. His main media of expression is paper, on charcoal or pencil sketches, on crafts and installations. In his work the notions of face and mask are predominant. By researching the concepts of societal and political identity, he is aesthetically reforming images and ideas juxtaposing the glorious historical past with the current decadent situation.
Pappas grew up in Chalkida, where he had his first contact with art. There, from a young age he attended art lessons at D. Mytaras’s Art Workshop (1985-1991). This experience was essential in his future artistic development.
After he received his BA degree in History and Archaeology (2001) and a postgraduate degree in Byzantine Archaeology (2006) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, he enrolled at the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he studied painting (2012-2017), while at the same time he was involved in multimedia and digital art. He graduated with honours. Pappas has participated in numerous group exhibitions and has created art projects in public space. His work has received many awards and praises.
Since 2007 he has been working in the field of local government (Ministry of Culture and Sports; Decentralized Administration of Attica – Directorate of Aliens and Immigration of Athens etc.).
